I was taken aback when I sat down at a Chopstix noodle restaurant in Plaza Indonesia shopping mall, one of Jakarta’s biggest, and saw this large work of wall art advertising their food.
The three-dimensional painting shows a member of the Ku Klux Klan taking a break from a rally to secretly enjoy a bowl of noodles behind a fence. The glow of fire (a burning cross?) flares in the background. It dominates the entire restaurant, yet I’ve never seen anyone so much as give it a passing glance.
That’s crass ignorance for you.
